Berkeley Ironworks Manager

Paul

Paul Barraza, Gym Manager
I've been climbing since 1993 and I still love it like a beginner. I spent my 20's taking climbing road trips around the US and during those I managed to climb in 30 out of the 50 states (I'm still working on the last 20). When I'm not working I'm usually bouldering in Tahoe, Yosemite or occasionally farther abroad.

Front Desk Staff

JeffreyJeffrey
Jeffrey has been climbing for thirteen years, throughout western North America and abroad. Jeffrey's formal education is in painting and drawing. When not here at Ironworks Jeffrey is out beach combing, sailing, diving, kayaking or otherwise engaged in numerous outdoor pursuits.
BrentBrent
Brent has been climbing since 2000. He got his BA in Mandarin Chinese at SFSU in 1993 and recently completed his Masters in Traditional Chinese Medicine from the ACCHS in Oakland.
DaveDave
Dave Altman is a self-described hermit who ventures out only so often to maintain the weight room at Berkeley Ironworks and to teach outdoor classes. Dave has been climbing for as long as anyone can remember and he is a fixture at Indian Rock. His mathematical prowess is almost as well known as his strength. He can bench 240 pounds while explaining how Wiles' proof of the semistable case of Taniyama-Shimura implies Fermat's Last Theorem.
JuliaJulia
The woman with the bouldering cat has been around Touchstone gyms since she was knee high or thereabouts, trailing brother, Ross up 12a’s with style and ease! Spotted hanging it out on the highway on really stormy days, Julia would rather boulder, kayak under the Golden Gate Bridge in HUGE swells and generally be in the sun, than sit around the house. Julia zips to work on her super sweet motorcycle. Did we mention that she climbs like a savage climbing machine? What a babe.
ClariClari
Clari has been climbing 1998 and working for Touchstone since 2000. Her interests include music, dance, gardening and crocheting. She is a huge Forty Niners fan.
DanielDaniel
Daniel has been climbing since 1995 and has worked at the gym off and on since high school. After a two year hiatus, Daniel is more committed than ever to climbing, particularly hard bouldering. Other interests include fishing and reading.
ToddTodd
Todd has been pursuing outdoor activities since he was very young. In 2003, while attending school at UC Davis, he began climbing regularly and has been addicted ever since.
PeterPeter
Peter has only been climbing since 2004, but in three short years he's found a second home at Ironworks. "The community here is great. I feel lucky to be a part of this place." After a semester away at college in the Northwest, he returned to Berkeley to reassess his priorities and get back to climbing. His other interests include running and meditation.
MikeMike
Mike has recently earned his bachelors of Applied Science in sound arts from Ex'Pression College of Digital Arts in Emeryville.  Other than climbing he enjoys music and art and something to file under random things to know, Mike once won a riding law mower at a contest at Lowe's!
CaseyCasey
Casey has been climbing since 2003, mainly taking breaks to study in Ireland or freak out about his library science graduate program. While he's up for most any type of climbing (don't as him to place trad gear) he always seems to end up bouldering. If you see him off the desk, he's either doing that or reading something.
