New Saturday Yoga Class @ Great Western Power Co.
Great news for all you Yoga fans that just so happen to be members of Great Western Power Co...looks like we have a brand new Saturday Yoga class that started this weekend and will be held every Saturday going forward. The class is taught by Sean Feit, who has previously been subbing in for Raven's evening class, but now is going to have a class of his very own. Here is a bit more about his class: Sean Feit who has previously subbed for Raven’s evening class will be coming to GWPC to teach, in his words, “an all-levels Vinyasa yoga class with an emphasis on breath, concentration and mindfulness. We cultivate deep presence in movement and awaken prana (full, flowing energy) throughout the body with a mix of strength and stretch, focusing on physical alignment, continuity of attention, and energetic clarity.”
Sean has practiced meditation in the Rinzai Zen and Theravadan Buddhist traditions since 1993, and yoga since 1995, studying with teachers in the Ashtanga, Jivamukti, Yin and Bihar lineages. His yoga classes emphasize mindfulness and inner clarity, focusing on breath, alignment & devotion. Drop into Great Western Power Co. to get more information and sign yourself up. This is a class all you yoga fans will not want to miss out on! Labels: Classes, Great Western Power Co., Saturday, Sean Feit, Vinyasa Yoga, Yoga

Climbing and Yoga Injury Clinic @ Mission Cliffs
Here's a quick heads up about an awesome free member event that is taking place this Sunday, April 19th from 2-4pm at our Mission Cliffs location. If you're in or around the area, we highly suggest dropping in for this clinic, you can learn a lot and I'm pretty sure everyone will benefit from it greatly. So, this Sunday, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm we will be having a Climbing and Yoga Injury Clinic that will help you learn exactly how to avoid common climbing and yoga related injuries. Check out the official info about the event: Focus on Lower Back, Hip and Knee Injuries
CLIMBING & YOGA INJURY CLINIC. Learn to prevent, identify and treat common climbing and yoga-related injuries in this FREE clinic on SUNDAY APRIL 19th from 2-4 PM. This clinic will focus on lower back, hip and knee injuries, but other injuries can be addressed as well, time permitting. Physical therapist David Borgeson will discuss the pathology and treatment of injuries affecting participants. Learn how climbing and yoga can both cause and cure injuries.
David Borgeson is an orthopedic physical therapist at Saint Francis Memorial Hospital Center for Sports Medicine - Corte Madera Clinic. An avid climber of 30 years and yoga practitioner, David has developed expertise in evaluating and treating injuries commonly seen in rock climbers and yoga enthusiasts. He has taught classes on climbing technique and injury prevention for Touchstone for the past 10 years, and incorporates yoga into his physical therapy practice. Bottom line, if you're in the area, stop in and check it out. Injuries are annoying no matter when, where or why you get them, so the more you can learn to avoid them, the better off you'll be. Your body will thank you, and when you're able to spend more days doing the things you love, and less days recovering, you'll thank us. Berkeley Ironworks Gets New Yoga Floor!
Bob Dylan said it best when he mentioned that the times, they are a changin'. For Berkeley Ironworks and the Yoga Room floor, that is a very, very good thing. Those at Berkeley Ironworks were quick to say that the old floor had a lot of character. They were also quick to say that that was a very, very nice way of saying that it was extremely old. Old is out, new is in. That's right folks, if you're not already signed up for Yoga classes at Berkeley Ironworks, you should be, and SOON, if for no other reason than to see the brand new, amazingly beautiful bamboo floor! The new floor should not only look amazing, but it should FEEL amazing, and bamboo is such a great product to use as it's a much more renewable resource than conventional wood. So, if you haven't already, at least come in and check out the gorgeous new flooring, and at the most, sign up for some Yoga classes! Your body will thank you! G.W.P.C. offers Yoga on Saturday Morning
Join us Saturday mornings at 11AM for yoga at GWPC. Shy Sayar is the instructor and founder of Upeksa Yoga, a style of yoga that perfectly balances the alignment and safety of Iyengar, the strength building of Ashtanga, and the deep flexibility achieved by Bikram Yoga - all with no need for a heated room. Pronounced “oo-payk-sha”, the term literally means “balance” or “equanimity”, and it captures the style’s focus on perfectly balancing both practitioner and practice - physically, psychologically and emotionally. This invigorating, challenging, safe and fun style often also draws on the healing power of Tibetan Heart Yoga, the subtle energy work of Shadow Yoga and the fun and loving kindness of partner yoga. This class is open to all levels and is FREE to members, $12 for non-members. Labels: fitness, Great Western Power Co., oakland, Yoga

Each chakra has a specific talent and characteristic associated with it, from creativity to willpower to compassion. Taking Yoga to the Streets
If for some reason you find yourself walking one day on the tough streets of San Francisco's Tenderloin district, you may just happen across the odd sight of a woman instructing yoga right on the dirty sidewalk. That woman is Sacramento Pipeworks yoga instructor Tamara Standard who, as her alter ego Yoga Girl, rolls out yoga mats and challenges denizens of the Tenderloin to literally practice yoga on the streets. Her mission is to share with others; bringing yoga to the underprivileged and those who haven't been exposed to the practice or may not have an opportunity to practice. "Yoga should be accessible to all people" she said. Tamara was inspired to begin her service as Yoga Girl 2 years ago when she was in the same down and depressed frame of mind that she now sees in the people she teaches. She finds most people she approaches on the street are actually willing to practice with her, often noting the softening of peoples faces and improvement in their posture or attitude after a session. "Yoga is a very transformative experience". Tamara is looking for people to help sponsor a small studio in the Tenderloin where she hopes to incorporate training others to help spread the word. You can watch video of her street work: http://yogagirlsf.com/index.html or anyone who wants to participate can contact her at: yogagirlsf@mac.comLabels: community, fitness, Sacramento Pipeworks, staff, Yoga

Yin Yang Yoga with Kate Schox at Mission Clif
 THIS Sunday, March 2nd from 1pm - 3pm $20 mem/$25 non-mem
Join Kate Schox in a relaxing and energetic afternoon of Yin and Yang Yoga. Enjoy a practice of opening up dense connective tissue using long-held relaxed floor postures (Yin) followed by an active asana practice where pranic flow and circulation are directed into the muscles and superficial tissues (Yang). An important part of the overall health of our body is the flexibility we feel not just in our muscles but in our joints as well. Muscles and blood are considered Yang while connective tissues and joints are Yin. Yang tissue most effectively responds to active, muscular movement which emphasizes strength and flexibility. Conversely, Yin tissue most effectively responds to passive and relaxed stillness, emphasizing joint health and mobility. In order to achieve balance in a world of primarily Yang yoga styles it is highly beneficial to supplement one’s Yang practice with Yin Yoga. Labels: event, fitness, mission cliffs, Yoga

Ayurvedic Lifestyle Consultant
We would like to congratulate Touchstone San Jose’s Yoga instructor, Tara Robertson, for completing her training and certification to become an Ayurvedic Lifestyle Consultant. Ayurvedic medicine is an ancient system of health care originating from India. Rooted in the terms, āyus, meaning “life” or “life principle, and “veda”, meaning knowledge or a system of knowledge, “Ayurveda” roughly translates to the “knowledge of life”. Thus, Ayurvedic practitioners utilize their knowledge of the body, herbal medicine, and of therapeutic measures to improve and maintain the mental, physical, social, and spiritual components central in having a healthy lifestyle. We wish Tara well in her pursuit of helping others towards healthy living. Labels: san jose, staff, Yoga

The Great Western Power Co.
Touchstone Climbing is thrilled to announce that we have signed a lease on a building in downtown Oakland. The Great Western Power Company is located in central Oakland, near BART and with quick access to the freeway. At over 45 feet tall, this building promises to provide some exciting new terrain to the Bay Area climbing community. We also plan to offer a large bouldering area with a variety of terrain. With over 10,000 square feet of space, there is still plenty of room for a great fitness area and rooms for yoga and other great programs. This gym will offer everything you have come to expect from a Touchstone facility. The current tenants are in the process of moving out and we will soon start construction. Keep an eye on the news blog for updates as this project progresses. We have also posted a few more pictures in the online gallery and will continue to add more as the building process begins. At this point we are hoping for an open date in late 2007. As soon as we start construction of the climbing structure, we will begin to host regular Friday night tours. Until then, we ask that you please respect the current tenant and the initial construction crews, and refrain from stopping by the building. Stay tuned... Releasing the Neck and Shoulders
A Yoga Workshop w/ Terri Kessler Saturday, May 20, 11:30-1:30 $20 Mission Cliffs
Discover new possibilities for ease and freedom in the neck and shoulders. In our computer-car-couch culture, many of us hold our tension in our shoulders and neck. This can lead to compression in the physical body and, along with the discomfort, a shutting down of the heart and a sense of being out of touch with our deeper selves. Through yoga, we can explore the habitual holding patterns that keep us locked in pain and learn to discover keys that can bring new freedom of movement in body and greater peace of mind. This workshop has 3 goals: 1. To learn and practice basic moves that keep neck and shoulder areas safe during yoga practice. 2. To gain awareness of habitual holding that results in pain. 3. To use intention and breath to release habitual holding. This workshop will focus on neck/shoulders while providing a full body-mind-spirit experience! All levels welcome. Cost: $20 members and $25 non-members. Sign-up at Mission Cliffs or call us at 415-550-0515 to reserve a spot. Labels: fitness, mission cliffs, Yoga

It can enhance clarity, sharpen our performances at work and improve our relationships with our significant others. Come and explore the ability of yoga to transform. Be assured that all you need is the desire. Beginning Tuesdays and Thursdays in May, instructor Deb Stone will be teaching an instructive, invigorating class in the exploration of this ancient art of yoga. Classes will run from 9:30 untill 11:00, Tuesdays and Thursdays and are open to all levels.
