Indoor Cycling at Berkeley Ironworks

The performance Indoor Cycling Program at Berkeley Ironworks was one of the first spinning programs in the East Bay and has been going strong for over 15 years. Our classes are taught by trained and experienced instructors who are dedicated to cycling and running inside and outside. Our approach to spinning is unique, challenging, and open to everyone.

If you’ve been thinking about joining us in class for the first time, here’s what you need to know.

Indoor Cycling at Berkeley Ironworks

Choose your first indoor cycling class

We offer classes the morning and evening. If possible, we recommend beginning with a morning class, since evening classes are typically harder. However, if you are only available in the evenings, you are more than welcome to attend.

We offer 60 minute, 90 minute, and two-hour indoor cycling classes. If it’s your first class, we recommend starting with a 60-minute class. You can check our class schedule here.

Bring water

You will sweat. A lot. We recommend bringing a water bottle designed for cycling or with a sport cap, rather than a bottle with a twist off cap. Ironworks has drinking fountains with delicious filtered water but does not sell bottled water.

If possible, bring bicycle shorts and shoes with an SPD of platform design

Bike saddles are hard and unforgiving, so padded shorts go a long way. If you’re just getting started and don’t have shorts or shoes, no worries. Choose a bike with toe cages when you arrive.

Plan on arriving early

Arrive 15-20 minutes early to give yourself time to set up your bike. The first class is always the hardest, but it will be MUCH easier if you have adjusted your bike for the correct fit. Be sure to let the instructor know that it’s your first time taking an indoor cycling class with us so that we can help you choose the correct settings for your bike.

Sign in at the front desk and get your Spin Number

Check in at the front desk just like you always do. If you’re a member, swipe in. If you’re a guest, purchase a day pass. Ask the front desk staff for a Spin Number. Your number will reserve a bike in the class, so bring your Spin Number with you in class.
