kids summer camp in OaklandSummer is just around the corner, and what better way to spend it than learning to rock climb with your friends?! We sat down with Great Western Power Company’s Kids Camp Directors Carole Ryu and Jaclyn Clark to get the details on their plans for rock climbing summer camp in Oakland.

“Summer vacations are such a memorable part of childhood and a climbing camp is a fantastic way to spend one,” said Ryu.

Kids rock Climbing Summer Camp Oakland Great Western Power Company will offer summer camps from June 15 to August 15. Each week from 9am to 12pm, the campers will be introduced to the wonderful world of rock climbing.

“For first time campers, our goal is to introduce them to climbing in a safe and fun environment,” said Clark. “For the return campers, we want to help them grow as climbers but also help them think about big picture stuff, like rope systems a outdoor climbing access issues.

“Every day of the camp will be slightly different. On top of teaching the basics like belaying and climbing technique, we play games, set up a zip line, and learn to rappel!” This isn’t your average summer camp!

“Kids are natural climbers. They’re strong, engaged, and they pick up skills so fast! It’s rewarding to see them go from beginners to confident climbers over the course of the camp,” said Ryu. Both Ryu and Clark have worked at climbing camps before and are excited to be with the GWPC Summer program. The overall mission is to get the kids excited about climbing and having a good time!
