If you attended the Touchstone Climbing Series bouldering competition at Berkeley Ironworks and thought to yourself, ‘Jeeze, this had got to be the biggest comp I’ve ever been to…’ You were right!
The TCS2015 competition had over 750 competitors! We’re especially psyched that we were also able to help raise over $3,500 for the Bay Area Climbers Coalition through $10 non-member entrance fees.
“It was so great to see such a huge turnout of members and guests at this comp.” said Berkeley Ironworks Manager Lyn Barraza. ‘I saw so many smiles and people having a great time. It made all the effort that goes into putting on an excellent event totally worth it.”
Our route setting team set 72 boulder problems from v0 to v11 , which filled the entire gym with boulder problems. “Competition setting is different,” explained head route setter Jeremy Ho. “We’re able to get more creative with the movement and put some really fun problems up there for people to enjoy.”

“Our goal was to raise at least $2,000 to purchase the equipment needed to take on more re-bolting projects at crags throughout the Bay Area,” said BACC President Matt Ulery. “The replacement of aging bolts is a huge undertaking and having enough of the right tools to do it cleanly and efficiently makes a world of difference.”
“Because of the amazing support of Berkeley Ironworks and the incredible psyche from the climbing community, we raised $3,500 to support stewardship projects and rebolting efforts at local crags.”
Big thanks to our sponsors Blurr and Black Diamond for coming out and donating shwag to make our competition raffle such a blast. Everyone who turned in a score card was entered into the raffle, so the night ended with a partner bouldering challenge and a lively raffle! We’re so happy to have their support and awesome gear to raffle off!
The Touchstone Climbing Series tours all 9 locations throughout California. In August the competition series will visit MetalMark Climbing in Fresno on the 21st. You can expect more of the same amazing problems, pizza, beer and fun!
