Diablo Rock Gym Gets the Bouldering Area it Deserves

We’ve started construction on our brand-new bouldering area! From the East side to the West side, the entire back (North) wall of the gym will soon be all bouldering.

Keep scrolling to see more renderings of it in all its soon-to-be glory below, and be sure to read the FAQs section under the images for details on what you can expect during the construction process

FAQs

Q: What does this mean for gym members and visitors?

A: For the next several months, our gym will be under construction. We will have the construction area sectioned off, of course, keeping construction dust out of your way, but some areas will be shifted and closed for some time. Here are the planned changes:

  • Front Desk Rebuild
  • Old Front Desk and Retail Demo
  • Fitness Area Demoed
  • New Fitness Area Rebuild
  • Current Bouldering Area Demo
  • New Bouldering Area Build

Q: How long will this take?

A: While it’s impossible to say with certainty, we hope to have you climbing on our new bouldering walls by mid-summer. Possibly before. Here is our tentative schedule for the changes:

  • Front Desk Rebuild (Feb)
  • Old Front Desk and Retail Demo (Feb)
  • Fitness Area Rebuild (Feb-March)
  • Current Bouldering Area Demo (March)
  • New Bouldering Area Build (April-?)

While we don’t see any major challenges, construction is filled with unseeable challenges. So please know these plans are still subject to change. You can, however, rest assured that we will have new bouldering walls in the not-too-distant future.

Q: Will gym users have access to cardio and fitness equipment during this time?

A:  It’s our goal to minimize downtime/disruptions of other gym services throughout this project. With that in mind, we hope & expect that strength equipment will only be down for about 1 week—give or take a day or so. We also think we will be able to make a temporary home for our stationary bikes and ellipticals within a similar time frame. When it comes to equipment that requires power, such as treadmills and stairmasters, we hope to keep one of each available during construction. To reiterate, while we wish we could, we simply cannot commit  100% to this timeframe. But as of now, we think this is what will happen and we’ll do our best to make it so.

Q: How long will the bouldering area be unavailable?

A: From March 2024 until we’re done. We’re hoping to be done by mid-summer 2024 if not earlier. But, again, this is our hope, not definitive.

Q: Will the Kilter Board be available during construction?

A: We hope so, and we’re going to do our darnedest to make that a reality.

Q: Will anything else be affected?

A: Again, it’s hard to say with 100% certainty, but we see no reason why any other aspects of the gym would be affected. Other than the changes outlined above, everything else in the gym should be available for full and regular use.

Q: Will it all be worth it?

A: Yes. Double yes! Have you seen those renderings? We’re confident that this small sacrifice on the part of our community will be paying huge dividends for decades to come. We appreciate our community for trusting and supporting us during this exciting new journey and can’t wait to unveil sparkling new walls and problems soon. Hopefully this summer.
