Mission Cliffs Expansion

For the past two years, Touchstone has worked hard on expanding San Francisco’s Mission Cliffs. After dealing with the hurdles of building permits and securing the location next to the current gym, the Mission Cliffs expansion is set to dramatically change the face to Touchstone’s original gym.  The expansion plans include an enormous roped climbing expansion, new flooring in the bouldering area, a new Yoga studio, additional weight and cardio space, a new cycling room and more.

The Mission Cliffs expansion includes 5,000 feet of space dedicated to more top roping and lead climbing. Walltopia, the company whom we worked with on the design and construction of Dogpatch Boulders, plans to include two adjustable crack systems and a 50 feet cresting wave wall.

For the bouldering area, there will be brand new flooring. With the help of Flashed Climbing, Mission Cliffs will have a continuous flooring system, which will end shuffling pads and uneven landings.

The expansion plans include a new, designated Yoga studio, which will be on the south side of the gym. The new studio, which will be larger than the current studio, will provide the dedicated yogis of Mission Cliffs an amazing new space to practice.

The weight and cardio equipment in the gym will be moved into a space to create a more open environment. This new fitness area will be on the south side of the gym, below and above where the front desk currently sits. The expansion also includes a dedicated stretching mezzanine in the new space on the north side of the gym.

For the cyclists in the city, there will be a new indoor cycling room located on the south side of the gym. When the expansion is complete, there are also plans for an expanded bike parking area.

In terms of the basic facilities, the front desk and entrance will relocate to the north side. The men’s locker room will be doubling in size with partitioned showers, extra toilets, more sinks and a nice, clean feel.

The construction has already begun, and we’re very excited about the positive feedback we have received. Please excuse our dust while construction is underway. The expansion will be happening in layers in order to minimally affect our members, and we can’t wait for the final result!
