September, or “SENDtember”, is a particularly exciting month for those who want to hone their skills at Touchstone Climbing. We have a wide array of clinics going down at each gym, but here are some extra special clinics coming up in September. If you want to climb on real rock, perfect your competition climbing, or join an on-going progression clinic – we’ve got you covered!
Learn to Climb Outdoors
Rock Climbing Outside: Bowman Lake
Saturday, September 26th @ 9am-8pm
$100/$150
Ever wanted to experience the thrill of climbing on real rock? This is an accessible and unique opportunity to transition to outdoor rock climbing under the guidance of one of our trained instructors. Youth coach and clinic instructor, Josh Foster will taking participants to the awesome sport climbing destination known as Bowman Lake for a pleasant experience in outdoor climbing. In Rock Climbing Outside you’ll have an entire day to scale the cliffs at the Bowman Lake climbing area.
Intro to Outdoor Climbing
Saturday, September 19th and Sunday, September 20th @ 5pm-8pm
$150/$200
Use this class as a way to learn the fundamentals of how to prepare yourself for climbing in the great outdoors. The first class focuses on setting up top-rope/sport anchors and rappelling — two essential practices for climbing outside. The second class goes over trad climbing in its entirety: placing gear, assessing gear placements and building trad anchors. Participants have the rare chance to take four classes in one weekend. This is a special clinic and not offered on a regular basis so take advantage of this unique opportunity before it’s too late!

Competition Climbing: Bouldering

Competitions have always been a huge part of the Touchstone experience and this month is no exception. Wanna prep for the TCS2015 finale at Dogpatch Boulders? We’ve whipped up a great opportunity for those who love the thrill of comp climbing, but feel like they could boost their skills and maximize their performance under pressure. Competition Bouldering with Scott Cory at Dogpatch Boulders is an informative and affordable way to tighten your skills and build effective strategies for success. Participants will learn how to train power endurance, sequence reading, resting techniques, being tactical about points and route choices, knowing your fellow competitors, and when to stop.
Learn to Climb at Touchstone Climbing
Progression: Bouldering
Four Mondays (9/21, 9/28, 10/5, 10/12) @ 7pm-9pm
$100/$150
This clinic is geared towards climbers in the beginner to intermediate level. Goals will be set and addressed based on the individual’s skills and needs. Students can expect intensive hands on instruction from an experienced staff member plus learning/progressing with fellow climbers at a similar skill level.
This bouldering specific four-session clinic includes two hours of intensive instruction per class. The first class is a foundation class based on foot work and basic body positioning. The second class is about route reading on and off the wall, sequencing, and an additional portion of advanced body positions. The third and fourth sessions focus on efficiency, momentum, training techniques, and an overall wrap up of the clinic’s content and realistic application.
Progression: Sport Climbing
Four Wednesdays (9/23, 9/30, 10/7, 10/14) @ 7pm-9pm
$100/$150
This clinic is geared towards climbers in the beginner to intermediate level. Goals will be set and addressed based on the individual’s skills and needs. Students can expect intensive hands on instruction from an experienced staff member plus learning/progressing with fellow climbers at a similar skill level.

This clinic is geared towards climbers in the beginner to intermediate level. Goals will be set and addressed based on the individual’s skills and needs. Students can expect intensive hands on instruction from an experienced staff member plus learning/progressing with fellow climbers at a similar skill level. Tools include: technique, wall and hold education, the benefits of group dynamics and positive reinforcement from peers, strength training, and heavy critiquing from an experienced instructor. Gain a renewed excitement for climbing as a physical challenge and a positive social activity.
Women’s Basic Technique
Thursday, September 24th @ 7pm
$40/$60
This is a basic technique clinic designed for the lady folk! In this class, we’ll cover the essential techniques like hand and body positions, precision footwork, and dynamic movement. The skills taught in this class are essential to every climber, from beginner to advanced and will benefit any climber who wants to learn better climbing technique. So come and learn to use your body to its full potential and climb in a supportive and fun group of like-minded climbers!
Rappelling
Wednesday, September 16th @ 7pm
$40/$60
This clinic focuses on rappelling practices, understanding rappelling risk and avoiding common and dangerous mistakes. For anyone seeking proficiency in outdoor climbing and safety, this is an essential class!
