Class Descriptions

Yin Yoga

Yin Yoga is a gentle and restorative form of yoga that is ideal for maintaining mobility while recuperating from an injury, or gaining the flexibility necessary for technical moves. This practice is more mentally challenging than physically demanding; seated and supine postures are held for anywhere between two and five minutes, which helps to alleviate soreness from training and creates lasting elasticity in the body’s connective tissues. The physiological benefits of this style of yoga are real; Yin provides a beautiful balance for those who work hard, and play hard. This is truly an all-levels class.

Vinyasa

This class is a powerful, energetic form of yoga where students fluidly move from one pose to the next while connecting their breathing to their movements; in essence, executing a moving meditation. After only a few weeks of taking this class students will start seeing results in feeling revitalized, more flexibility, stronger climbing, and core. It’s very likely you will even be more productive at the office!

Hatha

This class will let you explore many of the poses of traditional yoga and how they work with your body. This series is a cardiovascular workout that tones your muscles while calming your mind and reducing stress. This class is suitable for all levels.

Yoga For Climbers

Yoga for Climbers is a unique class that integrates the tools and wisdom of the yoga practice with key climbing inspired movements and integral strength and mobility exercises. Prepare to connect to the whole body and feel warm, limber, strong, and ready to climb! This is a great class to learn and get a thorough off-the-wall climbing warm up, warm down, or simply to get moving. It’s also perfect for an active recovery day! We take our physical wellness seriously but play and connect with each other while we move. And then you can take what we do into your own climbing routine!

Hip Opening and Strength

Thorough warm-ups lead to specifically sequenced and challenging posture with lots of options. A heavy dose of western anatomy is juxtaposed with pranayama and kundalini awakening. An excellent balance for the asymetries of climbing and climbing specific training.

Core with Kelly

Tune into the livestream to do an at-home core session with me! We’ll go over easy, standard, and advanced variations of each exercise, and then do a circuit-based workout. All you need is the floor, though if you have a dumbbell or weights, you can use them to increase the difficulty of some exercise. I’ll leave some time at the end to answer any questions, too.”

Climber’s Core with Jackelyn

In this very exciting 30-minute fitness experience, we’ll be focusing on core and back strength! We’ll start with a quick warm-up and then dive into bodyweight exercises that will help build upon the powerhouse of your body. No equipment required, but a mat is highly recommended.

Home Mobility Accelerator

This 30 minute home mobility class has been put together by the physical therapists at Pro+Kinetix Physical Therapy & Performance and structured specifically to target the muscles and joints that are most prone to getting tight, especially during times where we are spending more time at home and unable to make it to the gym. All mobility exercises will be able to be completed at home without any equipment needed. BONUS: Following the course, all attendees will receive the exact mobility routine taught during the course to allow attendees to continue to make improvements in their mobility.

Yoga Sculpt

In a nutshell, Yoga Sculpt is a class that incorporates hand weights and high-intensity cardio bursts for a maximum calorie-burning effect. You’ll recognize similar poses from classic Vinyasa yoga. The hand weights add a new challenge to traditional yoga classes. Yoga Sculpt also incorporates cardio exercises to get your heart pumping and your blood flowing.

Fusion Flow

A true blend of balance, core strengthening and flexibility, Fusion Flow combines the meditative, detoxifying qualities of yoga with the intensity of power yoga to help you deepen your yoga practice. You’ll focus on yoga postures that open the shoulders, hips and spine while strengthening your core and upper body. This is a set sequence, to help your mind and body test it’s limits with the familiarity of the same poses every time you practice Fusion Flow.

Boxing + Strength

A great cardio and strength workout–learn boxing skills and techniques!
Improve your climbing game (and overall strength!) through resistance training–learn proper form and mental focus that makes for the most effective workout!

HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training)

This class will be a 50 minute full body circuit workout. We will focus on functional strength with an emphasis on muscle endurance, balance, and high quality repetitions. Capped off with a core burn, you’ll walk away feeling great and ready to take on your day.

Tai Chi

Balance and harmonize your mind and body with tai chi with Dan Vasquez. Simple and easy movements that relax you while giving your body a gentle workout.

Strength and Mobility

Enjoy an hour of workouts that incorporate traditional yoga postures for mobility/flexibility and strengthening exercises for strength and endurance. A full body workout!

Our Instructors

Molly

Molly’s classes are appropriate for all levels and are designed to enhance your endurance, strength, and flexibility. You’ll explore your edge and cultivate a sense of playfulness in your practice, then leave feeling calm and refreshed.

Nancy

Nancy has taught movement through dance, on the yoga mat, and even up in the sky (as a skydiving coach) for many years and has decided it’s all the same thing: what’s your pelvis doing?
She’s been an instructor at Mission Cliffs since 2016 teaching Yoga for Climbers and Strength Conditioning and has a practical approach to her classes with an emphasis on injury prevention and breaking the molds of the traditional yoga poses for fun.

William

William discovered Yoga in 1995 on the simple path to becoming a better rock climber.  He learned Yoga is a lot more than building core strength & flexibility.

“Practicing Yoga is a great compliment to any hobby because of the powerful psychological benefits & body connection to breath.  This metaphor is infinite as the power of breath is used every day, especially when we confront fear & anxiety.  The simple yet profound path to learning how to master our breath makes our life more manageable & teaches us how to let go of stress & tension in a healthy sustainable manner.”

In addition to practicing victorious breath, William loves how Yoga reminds us to slow down & stay connected to living in the present & being aware.  Learning to do this brings us peace & joy when we most need it.

Invigorated by Yoga, William completed multiple Yoga Teacher Trainings at Akasha Yoga in Davis & CorePower in Berkeley. When he isn’t teaching Yoga, he can often be found rock climbing in Yosemite.

Brianna

When Brianna was introduced to climbing she realized that, like yoga, climbing is essentially a meditative union between mind and body. After a decade of practice on the mat, climbing sparked her desire to delve deeper into the mental and physical parallels between these two exercises that cultivate both internal and external strength. Eager to share the benefits of yoga with the climbing community, she shifted from practitioner to instructor. To best realize her capabilities as a teacher, Brianna remains a perpetual student. A humble and honest practice daily sharpens her mental acuity and challenges her physical ability; so that she steps off her mat equipped to navigate the rolling waves of existence with an even keel. Her sincere desire is to immerse students in the fluid experience of a balanced class that energetically sparks a fire within, while simultaneously providing a safe port to ground down amid the stressors of life. She guides her students to reap the benefits of practice by challenging them to discover the potential of their physical body so that they can carry a calm sense of joy off their mat and into life.

Sam

Sam is an L.A. native, climber, and yogi. Living in the Midwest for a few years proved to be an overwhelmingly drastic change in lifestyle, leaving her struggling to find stress relief and a sense of belonging. She started consistently practicing vinyasa which morphed her practice from purely physical to holistic by incorporating body awareness and meditation into a lifestyle that fostered connection and community. Sam strives for a welcoming atmosphere, with classes that are approachable while packing in a healthy mix of strength and flexibility. Her focus on creative sequencing prepares her students for poses they might even be surprised to get into. She challenges her students while bringing levity to class with playfulness, sweet tunes, and a big sweaty smile. Sam completed her 200-hour RYT with Bare Feet Power Yoga in Chicago, IL.

Kelly Birch

Kelly was first introduced to climbing through a summer camp in her hometown of Scottsdale, AZ when she was 11 years old. She quickly joined the competitive youth team and competed in sport, speed, and bouldering for 6 years, including multiple national and world championships. She moved to San Diego, CA in 2012 to attend college, where she eventually obtained her degree in Behavioral Neuroscience. During this time, she took a long break from climbing, and ended up pursuing competitive powerlifting for a couple of years. The experience of strength training for a new sport reignited her passion for physical fitness. In 2017, she re-joined the climbing community and threw herself into training. She now focuses primarily on hard bouldering outdoors and takes frequent trips to California destinations such as Bishop, Tahoe, Black Mountain, and the Palm Springs Tramway. As a result, she’s ticked off over 30 double-digit boulder problems since she began climbing again.

Kelly joined the Touchstone community in 2018 when she relocated to Los Angeles. One of her first Touchstone experiences was competing at the Woman Up 2018 competition just a couple of weeks after starting to climb at Cliffs of Id. She was incredibly stoked to take second place in a stacked field and excited by Touchstone’s level of engagement with the community. In just the past year, she’s grown immensely as a climber and made some of her closest friends at the Touchstone gyms in the Los Angeles area. In addition climbing and training, she is currently in her second year of her Master’s degree in Epidemiology at UCLA.

Jackelyn

Jackelyn Ho has been teaching fun and sweaty fitness classes since 2009, specializing in high-intensity, yoga, and cardio kickboxing classes. She’s the founder of Arrival Fitness, a corporate wellness company that brings fitness experiences to the workplace. She started climbing in 2013 after being accepted to compete on American Ninja Warrior (a.k.a. the fastest way to build serious grip strength). Although the obstacle course thing didn’t stick, her love for scaling rocks became an obsession. Her stoke level for training climbers is very high. Like, multi-pitch high. She loves nothing more than working with climbers on their endurance, flexibility, and mental game off the wall so that their crag performance can skyrocket! Whoo!

Dallas

Dallas has over 15 years of experience as an athlete and NASM Certified Personal Trainer. She is also a Certified Wellness Coach and Holistic Nutritionist. She portrayed herself in Jerry Maguire – where Tom Cruise tells her true story of making boxing history at 16 years old. She later won several titles as a bodybuilder. This polymath is an animal rescue volunteer, professional actor, classically trained pianist and singer/songwriter.
