Dogpatch Boulders Team Bonding

If you happened by Dogpatch Boulders on October 23rd you may have noticed that none of the usual suspects were behind the desk. In their place were the friendly faces of Touchstone all-stars from around the Bay area, because your regularly scheduled staff members were out doing some family bonding in Tomales Bay!

Most of the crew camped out near Dillon beach on Thursday, only to be awoken by pillaging cows from the nearby pasture. Not to be deterred from a delicious breakfast, the team made their way to Point Reyes Station for fresh pastries before heading out on the water.

While the Dogpatch Boulders staff are generally pretty adept at overland/rock adventures, most of us are like fish out of water when we’re in …the water. So they decided to try kayaking! “It was a blast,” said Dogpatch Boulders Manager Justin Alarcon.  After navigating their way across the bay, they explored the beaches of Tomales Bay State Park and eventually made their way to Hog Island, which is part of the Point Reyes National Seashore.

After leisurely paddling to the island over the course of 3 hours, it dawned on everyone that there was only an hour left before being they had to be back in Marshall to return the kayaks. The following hour was a brutal and humbling workout that will not be recalled as anyone’s favorite experience of the trip, but it made what was to come that much better.

Lunch at the Marshall Store was the perfect tonic for tired bodies. The oysters and pulled pork sandwiches were a fantastic way to wrap up the trip. Going kayaking as a group was a great way to relax, release, and be reminded of what a privilege it is to live northern California.
