If you’ve seen a friendly new face at Cliffs of Id lately, it’s likely that you’ve met Sidney! Sidney is a part of the WorkAbility Program and will be helping us out at the gym for a few hours per week this semester. His job coach, Michelle, is here to introduce Sidney and WorkAbility’s mission. Header photo by Fred Pompermeyer.

What is the WorkAbility Program?

Workability is a state-funded program that helps students with disabilities receive work experience in the community. Students are paid through a grant subsidized by the state of California and are offered job-site coaching and skills training at no cost to employers.

Where are the current job sites that students work at?

Some of the current job site partnerships with Culver City High School include Marshalls, Love the City, Noodles Boutique, Old Navy, Footlocker, Journeys, Petco, Culver City’s Senior Center, and now Cliffs of Id! We are always looking to expand our business partnerships!

Who is Sidney?

Sidney is currently enrolled in the Culver Connections program at Culver City High School and is thrilled to be working at Cliffs. He has previously worked at Petco and Lin Howe Elementary School. He loves to watch the NBA—his favorite team is the Los Angeles Clippers. He is an avid Star Wars fan and likes to play basketball and soccer in his free time. Sidney’s heroes are his grandparents; he loves them for always taking care of him and always preparing food for him.

The one superpower he’d love to have is to fly! His favorite place in the world is Target because they have everything he could ever want. Sidney is super excited to learn how to climb because he has never done it before! He is very much enjoying his time working at Cliffs and can’t wait to learn more.

Be sure to say hi next time you see Sidney at the gym!
