In January, Saint Matthew Lutheran Church visited Diablo Rock Gym in Concord. We received this write up in a thank you letter from Melinda, the youth director.
I have taken both our high school youth group and middle school youth group to Diablo Rock Gym multiple times. It is a great event that my students enjoy, and always they ask when we will go again!
Since Diablo Rock Gym has a variety of levels of routes and boulder problems, everyone can participate regardless of their athletic ability or their fear of heights. Since climbing is such a unique activity, it creates a lot of fun memories, and help the kids learn to challenge themselves and try new things. Many of my students leave excited by how much they were able to accomplish.
I love how climbing builds a greater sense of community in our group. I have seen many times if a student is stuck on a hard route, that other students will gather around and shout encouragements to them to help them finish. Climbing has help build friendships, boost confidence levels and conquer fears.
Hans is a great manager to work with and the Diablo Rock Gym staff always makes sure we have the the best time possible. Everyone there is friendly and patient in helping get all our students geared up and climbing safely.
My students love DRG and so do I!
