It’s no secret that the Touchstone Climbing Series is legendary. And this month’s comp is bringing the community together at The Studio Climbing in the heart of downtown San Jose.
Pre-Competition Prep:
Carbo-loading is only half of the game. It’s time to start prepping for comp night! Here are some helpful tips to help you prepare for the fun you’ll undoubtably write home about.
- Climbing Gear. If you don’t have your own shoes, harness or belay device, we shall rent you what you need.
- A Touchstone belay card. If you don’t already have a permanent belay card, we’ll be able to do top-rope tests the day of the comp.
- A competition code. If you’ve competed in a Touchstone comp in the last 3 years, you already have one! You can look it up, or get your code here.
- A paper waiver. You’ve filled out digital waivers in the past. You’ve filled out waivers at comps. Let’s keep that beloved tradition alive. Print your waiver ahead of time if you want to be really VIP and skip the line.
Transportation:
I mean really, DO you know the way to San Jose? There are some obvious routes to take. A helicopter, for example.
But, if you’re looking for alternatives means of transportation, consider public transportation! If you’re coming from San Francisco or the Peninsula, hop on and hop off at the Downtown San Jose Caltran Station, which is a short walk from The Studio doors. Other options include biking, hitchhiking, lyft-ing, and speed walking.
If you are driving to the comp, listen up. We’ve hidden validated parking options around the city – all you have to do it find them! j/k. We’ve made you a map. Parking is easy in San Jose if you’re headed to the TCS2015 comp at The Studio!
What to expect:
Aka: How to convince your friends this the the best thing they could possibly be doing with your Friday Night. If this video from the Studio’s VERY first comp doesn’t get you psyched to come check out the gym.. nothing will.
That’s right. This comp is FREE for members, only $10 for guests, and more fun that you can shake a stick at. No matter your level, there will be tons of brand new comp style routes for you to climb, along with pizza, beer from Strike Brewing, and raffle prizes. TCS comps are a fun way of saying Thank You to our members for being awesome – and they are not to be missed.
And remember – if you’re competing in men’s or women’s advanced, you have a shot at participating in on-sight finals at Mission Cliffs in June. Your top 3 scores determine who will climb for a shot at major cash prizes! Don’t let a ropes comp pass you by!
Share with your friends and frenemies to make sure nobody missed out on the fun.
